Epoxy Molds for Part Duplication in Furniture Restoration

Epoxy Molds can be used to duplicate special trim and decorative pieces that are impractical to duplicate in wood.

While they could be completed in actual wood with extensive labor, the cost just becomes too high.

A typical problem item for duplication is one that has extensive irregular shapes or carvings, as can be seen in these examples. They can be done in the flat like for a picture frame molding, or in the round (much more difficult) like for a bed finial.

The following photos demonstrate the step-by-step process used.

The foot in the middle is the original manufacturer's foot. It is actually made of a composite material, not wood. One of four such feet was broken and lost in a move. We made another foot to match using the epoxy mold method in the pictures above.
