Recruiting Staff Woodworkers

The Wood Works is looking for woodworkers to join our current team as permanent, long-term staff members. We need full time and part time members. We provide career opportunities and actively encourage staff to broaden and deepen their knowledge and skill!

We operate on an assigned project basis. Depending on your knowledge and skill levels you are typically assigned to accomplish all phases of a project, including its on-site installation or delivery. The only area of specialization is staining and finishing.

Workloads and related staffing levels are carefully controlled to ensure work stability and security to the highest degree possible. We normally work a regular 8-hour day, 5 days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You receive pay during the required 15-minute "safety/rest breaks" for each 4 hour work block per day. Staff generally use a half hour unpaid lunch break.

On occasion, as workload demands, we encourage and/or require overtime work of at least 9 hours per day, for which you will receive 50% overtime pay for all hours over 40 per week.

With the broadening of your knowledge and skill and as workloads vary, your originally assigned specialty may expand to include other areas. As a result, we have never had a lay-off in over 25 years of business activity. Finally, we have a written policy of notifying all staff weekly of new orders and back-log status, guaranteeing a two-week notice for any significant changes in the staffing structure. We expect the same should you ever decide to look elsewhere for employment. The result is that job security and stability comes from your breadth of skills and management's control of staffing levels in relation to workloads.

Your initial pay rate will be established based on your education, training, knowledge, skill level and work experience in relation to how productive we expect you to be for the business initially and over time. Your performance and base pay will be reviewed after the first 3 and 6 months, and then annually.

Unless you are a "natural" for our type of work, there is usually an initial six month period before you become fully productive. During this time you will need to be trained in and practice a broad range of woodworking activities.
