Plywood Lip Slab Door Replacement

A common older style kitchen door is of 3/4" plywood with a lip that overlaps the edge. They frequently fail. The practical replacement is our slab door for more strength that also eliminates the rough plywood edge.

See Nationwide Services section for shipping of sample guidelines

The cabinet door style used in the 1940s and 1950s generally was the plywood slab door. The door is made of 3/4 plywood with a "lip edge" that is rounded on the front portion and notched or lipped on the back portion.
The style of door frequently had decorative grooves cut into the panel and/or applied molding. We do NOT duplicate such.

A replacement plywood slab door from 3/4 plywood requires too much handling and machining to duplicate cost effectively. While we can do that, it is not part of this discussion.

A new solid lumber, not 3/4 plywood, version is ordered up from our door fabricator experts. It is technically called a "breadboard" door since it has cross lumber at both ends for design and lumber stability. When painted it will look at close to the needed requirement as possible.

The new door should be sized based on the bad door. If not, it can be sized based on the opening. Take the cabinet opening height and add 1/2" for 1/4" at top and 1/4" at bottom of clearance of the lip. Do the same on the width to allow for the hinge. This assumes one door over an opening. If two doors over one opening it is called a matched pair of doors and the total width has 1/2" added and then is divided by half for door size. The center door seam would then not be shaped on the matching doors.

The typical cost if $100 to $150 with an average of $100.
