Lathe turning is performed by woodturners. Building a true box is a mechanical skill. Turning wood at high rotation speeds under sharp chisels causes the wood to act like clay and that is what a woodturner does. It is a magical experience to watch a woodturner perform his work.

If you can find a master woodturner, most concentrate on remarkable artistic turnings, but our master woodturner specializes in duplicating lathe turnings in small and moderate quantities. And, his ability to make duplicates that are nearly perfect to the next one is amazing.

WOOD SPECIE NOTICE:
Certain hardwoods are becoming harder to obtain in the quality we desire. ** When available.
Wood prices quoted subject to change based on market price at time of order.

WALNUT** is starting to show some sap wood portions and dark streaks.

MAHOGANY** is simply in short supply generally. ANY DELAY IN SHIPMENT will be notified to you and full refunds are available at that point if/as requested.

MAPLE available is a SOFT MAPLE, It is a close grained wood which may include heartwood streaks of darker color and is NOT available in a "select" grade.

PAINT GRADE** is not always readily available, so if not you'll be notified that we can slightly upgrade to SOFT MAPLE.

 

SANDING: In Price: The turning is sanded on the lathe while turning at slow speeds. Goal is minimal cross grain scratch marks. Some minor hand work may be required, dependng on your goal.

MACHINING: Optional Service: Your item might have a mortise socket for another spindles tenon. If requested it can be pre-drilled for you. 
            Some imported chairs have screw pockets to hold the tenon into its socket. We do not recommend duplicating them because they were the cause of your problem to start with. Use glue and clamps, as is proper,

FINISHING: Optional Service: The turning can have standard stains applied to match or  blend with your sample. The "limitor" is new vs old wood and finish. If stained, it will receive a clear top coat. No solid paint.

HOW TO MEASURE TO CONFIRM AN ORDER:

• Send digital picture close up of bad spindle or similar good spindle for verification before shipping or bringing to us.
• Include measurements (length including any tennons, largest diameter, smallest diameter) and quantity, along with what wood you think it is. Or, just get to us and we’ll let you know final cost! The smaller the smallest diameter the harder it is to turn your spindle duplicate.

• All wood species naturally have various grain patterns and colorations, so exact matches are not possible.
• Must have a whole sample spindle to duplicate, even if broken. Tenon tip missing not an issue. Send broken section pieces and we'll patch together for what we need.. 
• NO SAMPLE TO COPY? IF you don't have a sample to duplicate we can likely still solve the problem but a design fee for a profile template is then required.
• Completion is usually 2-4 weeks.

QUANTITY ORDERS:
MULTIPLES of same spindle or turning typically includes a discount depending on quantity, difficulty, wood specie.
Price break points start at 25#, 100# and 200#. 
We do NOT mass produce in large quantity 1000#+.
